Red Cross Babysitter's Course
Get the skills needed to become a babysitter! Learn basic supervision and emergency procedure in a hands-on course designed for youth who are home alone or responsible for other children. 100% attendance and successful completion of a final quiz are required to pass the course.
Prepare yourself for Bronze Medallion in this excellent introductory lifesaving program. Develop water rescue skills, learn CPR and first aid. Learn how to keep yourself and others safe around water. Bronze Star is an official training program of the Lifesaving Society, Canada's lifeguarding experts. Prerequisite: Swim Kids Level 7 swimming ability. If 13yrs old you may start in Bronze Medallion.
Gain an understanding of the lifesaving principles embodied in the four components of water rescue - education, judgment, knowledge, skill and fitness. Learn tows and carries along with defense and release methods in preparation for rescues involving conscious and unconscious victims of various types, and develop stroke efficiency in a timed swim. 100% attendance is mandatory. No refund after start date. You will receive a schedule on the first day of the course. Prerequisite: Must be 13 years old or hold Bronze Star.
Are you a lifesaver looking for the challenge of more advanced training including an introduction to safe supervision in aquatic facilities? Bronze Cross was designed with you in mind, and is a prerequisite for all advanced training programs including National Lifeguard and Lifesaving Instructor certifications. 100% attendance is mandatory. NL Pool (National Lifeguard)
Take your first step towards becoming a certified lifeguard. Prerequisite: You must be 15 years old, hold a Bronze Cross (does not need to be current) and a Standard First Aid/CPR C/AED award (must be current).
Online Youth Volunteer Orientation
Volunteer with the District of West Vancouver! Are you over 14 years of age and below 19 years and have a BC Services Card with Personal Health Number? If yes, you are welcome to register for our online volunteer orientation at activewestvanrec.ca, or by calling 604-925-7270. After you register, you will receive an email with a link to the online orientation which consists of a video with important information, followed by a quiz. This is not an automatic process, so there could be a delay of up to 2 to 3 days before you receive the link to the video. Once you complete the online orientation, we will be in touch regarding next steps. Please note that you will also need to do a free in-person orientation after COVID restrictions end. We look forward to having you on board!
